Castaways

"My days felt as if they had been torn away from a dreadful book.

They were the discarded pages. The pages of confusion and creative deficiency. An author with spontaneous temper and a tested spirit must have lit the pages aflame in his fireplace. After ripping them out and crumbling up a disappointing storyline.

My troubles continued to smolder daily as the pages did in that burning furnace.

My longing for an ocean of freedom and peace had dried up to a massive wasteland.

My dreams disappeared with smoke disguised as beautiful clouds.

My inner child held no happiness or joy. It was lost.

Similar to those castaway pages was a life I had lived. Having only darkness to hope for. And with no end of it in sight. The scarcity in me was filled with rejects and castaways.

On a whim the writer casted those pages in a mad blaze. They were leading him nowhere. He thought he had muted the words. . . . But before the writer turned his back upon his destructive act, he winced. For something spoke through those flames. The pages burning in that fireplace weren't just senseless, meaningless words. They were the life and breath to a character he had created. And the storyline to come would be magnificent if he just followed through.

My days were getting more and more tiresome. Thoughts levied between giving up and trying to go a little farther.

If only my feet could walk in oceans of freedom.

If only my dreams could fly again amongst the clouds.

If only my eyes could see happiness and joy again. . . .

The writer came to a standstill. He had a choice; To reach back into those flames and possibly pull out something inspirational and powerful. Or continue writing the same lives and living the same days as he had always done.

He hurried his hand back into that burning fire and pulled out what he could. It was here, where inspiration was found. Amongst the ashes and burnt papers he saw the words he believed he was meant to see. He saw a future; bright as the sun at midday. And that day wasn't just one, but many. All filled with creativity and innovation.

A smile ignited his face. He bloomed with excitement. Running to grab fresh papers and a pen, he acknowledged what just happened.

He changed his scope of work that day. He changed how he thought. And he put it in action for as long as he could write. . .

My days were those castaway pages

As change did follow. With a sudden turn in mindset, the days succeeded with not as much fire and brimstone. They held a hint of cool air.

I could finally breath. I could finally see. I could finally walk in that ocean of freedom.

It all started with that change of thought, mindset, and then acting upon it."
